The Edmonton Oilers are positioning themselves for the playoffs, acquiriung forwards Trent Frederic and Max Jones from the Boston Bruins in a multi-team trade on Tuesday. New Jersey is the third-party facilitator of the transaction.

Two forwards who didn’t have the seasons the Bruins had hoped for are headed to the defending Western Conference champs as Boston dealt its most accomplished fighter. The Devils confirmed that the Bruins are shipping Trent Frederic and Max Jones to the Edmonton Oilers as part of a three-way trade with the New Jersey.

Trading Frederic is the first sell-off by the Bruins, who are among the teams vying for the final couple of playoff spots in the Eastern Conference.
