Toyota Motor will offer the 2026 RAV4 only as a hybrid or plug-in hybrid, eliminating a traditional gas engine in the vehicle.

Toyota unveiled an overhauled RAV4 on Wednesday and said the compact sport utility vehicle would be the first Toyota model to be equipped with the Japanese automaker's Arene software development platform.

Hybrid-electric vehicles have largely defined Toyota's approach to electrification thus far, with company executives consistently pledging their support to the gas-electric powertrain — and the new RAV4, which offers both conventional and plug-in hybrid powerplants, is the latest iteration of this promise.
