Responding to Trump’s comments Friday, Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., said he would “fight that tooth and nail, and there will not be a penny appropriated for an FBI headquarters anywhere other than Greenbelt, Maryland.”

President Donald Trump said he would seek to scrap a plan to move the Federal Bureau of Investigation headquarters from Washington, DC to Maryland, and instead keep it in the nation’s capital — the latest in a long-running saga over the site for the agency’s main office.

Greenbelt was selected as the site in November 2023 after a lengthy process which also considered Landover and Springfield, Virginia as the site for the new headquarters.

Maryland Sens. Chris Van Hollen and Angela Alsobrooks voted against the bill.
