President Donald Trump is ramping up efforts to curb crime in the nation’s capital on Monday as he threatens a federal takeover of Washington, DC, with plans for FBI agents to patrol the streets all while city officials largely remain deferential to him.

As DC is not a state, federal authorities can exert more control over the city even as residents and local elected leaders protest

The FBI agents, primarily from the Washington Field Office, will work overnight shifts for at least one week supporting D.C. police.
