Transportation Minister Devin Dreeshen maintained he didn't kill the Green Line by pulling the province's share of the funding for it about two weeks ago.

In the weeks before his resignation, Logan was on leave from his job just as work was ramping up on the multibillion-dollar Green Line project. He received a payout of $471,596 upon his departure as part of a settlement reached between Logan and city management.

Alberta's transportation minister says the City of Calgary's decision to wind down the Green Line LRT project is "unfortunate” — but he isn’t completely closing the door on the transit initiative.

Those who organized the rally said the Green Line is an essential project, and political leaders need to find a solution in order to get the line built.

To pause (instead of wind down) the current project and wait for the province to present their realignment plan (expected near the end of 2024) would cost The City nearly $1M per day. That’s more than $90M over the span of the next three months.

In response to Calgary city council’s 10-5 vote Tuesday to wind down work on the Green Line project, transportation minister Devin Dreeshen said the provincial government’s funding contribution for the multibillion-dollar transit initiative remains on the table — but only if the c ity opts to “change its mind and decide to build a Green Line that serves the needs of Calgary commuters.
