Zohran Mamdani, the socialist mayoral candidate for New York City, is catching up to Andrew Cuomo in the polls for the Democratic primary. Mamdani, 33, is currently a New York assemblymember and has been running a grassroots campaign largely against former Governor Cuomo.

The Democratic primary for New York City mayor is effectively a two-person race between Andrew Cuomo and Zohran Mamdani, two new internal polls show. A survey conducted by Data for Progress on behalf of a super PAC for Mamdani found Cuomo up by just two points,

Cuomo's team was unmoved by the AOC endorsement. Spokesman Rich Azzopardi insisted Cuomo has a large and growing coalition.
