A federal judge said on Thursday she would extend an order blocking President Donald Trump's administration from immediately revoking Harvard University's ability to enroll international students, a victory for the Ivy League school that is entangled in multiple battles with the administration.

The administration’s action was illegal and would cause irreparable harm, because about a quarter of Harvard students are from other countries, lawyers argued.

The decision was a victory, at least temporarily, in the university’s confrontation with the White House, which has sought to undercut its finances and influence.
